This morning we woke up to sunshine, or so we thought. This was the morning of the Carencro parade and the block party at Zack's Aunt Sandra's house, which is on the parade route. Getting there was like an act of Congress. There are SO many people here that we had to get ready to go. Here in Broussard, it was beautiful outside, sunny and finally somewhat warm. Zack called and said to dress really warmly (he was already there), that in Carencro, it was foggy, windy, and cold. He was not kidding. As we drove toward Carencro, 10 miles north of Broussard, we hit a wall of some of the thickest fog I've ever seen. It was cold and breezy, and miserable up until the parade started at 11. Then the fog began to burn off and we saw sunshine! By this time, though, the cold weather had already taken it's toll on Peyton's already stuffy nose, causing him to be a snotty mess by late morning and completely clogged up by the afternoon.
The parade was fun. At first Peyton was very unhappy because he was hungry from not eating well due to his nose being stuffy. The noise of the crowd and the music on the floats scared him. About halfway through the parade I took him back to the house, fed him, and he was content for the rest of the parade, even seeming to like it at times. We went back to the house following the parade for the block party, with music courtesy of Uncle Fred, dancing, and socializing. Peyton was sleepy, but a nap was not to be had. I finally got him to sleep, briefly, in the sling right before we left.
I thought after we left Carencro, the afternoon would be restful and easy. I was wrong. We had probably the scariest moment we've had with Peyton, ever. We got back to the house and he started coughing, and coughing, and coughing. He could barely stop long enough to breathe. It was very wet from all the sinus drainage, and finally, he puked...in my hand. I then knew why he's had no appetite since we've been here (he's had the sinus issues since the day before we left Colorado). It was all mucus. Poor baby. We gave him a hot bath, hoping to make it better, but afterwards he went into another fit. It completely wore him out and he finally fell asleep propped against my shoulder and slept it off. So, to make a long story short...too late...we stayed home from the parade tonight since it was going to be really cold to make sure he's doing better.
Tomorrow is another day. Hopefully Peyton will begin to feel better. I feel bad because our friends Ben and Rachel came all the way from Colorado to celebrate Mardi Gras and tonight they went out with the family and we stayed home. The other highlight for them and us was supposed to be a crawfish boil tomorrow, but due to the extremely cold Louisiana winter, crawfish are scarce and EXTREMELY expensive. :( Se la vi.
